Wash all the windows in Paris

Some interviewers will ask strange questions to see if you can think through a problem, come up with the information you’ll need to solve it, and then ask for that information—or explain how you’d find it—in a structured, logical way.

For this question, it's obvious that you can't give a clear answer because:

1. you don't know how many windows are in Paris; and
2. there's nowhere to find that information.

The interviewer knows this is an impossible question, so focus on what you would charge to wash one window. Then talk it through with the interviewer and see where it takes you. This will show how you handle impossible questions, and how creative you can be in addressing them.

USEFUL LANGUAGE:

• Wow, that's a very difficult question to answer!
• Well, I would charge XX to wash one window, so that means...
• I can't think where I would find out how many windows there are in Paris. So, in that case...
