Talk about your resume

When interviewers ask you to "walk them through" your resume, they want to both learn about your work history and your ability to tell your "story" as it relates to the job. This is often one of the first questions asked, so you want to start off well. Go through your resume in narrative form, touching on important points but not mentioning everything in detail. The interviewer can simply read your resume to get that information. They want to see how you connect all the things on your resume into a coherent story of how it leads to this job.

NOTE: DO NOT just read through your resume point by point.

TIPS:

• Keep it short. Don't overwhelm the interviewer with too many details.
• Talk about how your history leads to this particular job.
• You can simply tell your story chronologically, but you can also try the "present–past–future" structure—start by describing your current position before talking about past jobs and linking them both to the future.
• Acknowledge gaps in your resume. Otherwise, the interviewer will think you're hiding something. Just tell your story, and if possible, link it to where you are now.
