Are you successful?

Interviewers are looking for several things with this question:

• how you define success;
• whether you focus on the end result, or on what you learn along the way;
• how confident you are in yourself—
  • do you lack self-confidence?
  • are you overconfident (a braggart who will be hard to work with)? or
  • do you have a healthy sense of self-esteem?
• what keeps you motivated towards a goal; and
• how well you work with others.

This is a tricky question—you want to show yourself as successful, but you don't want to show off. First of all, your answer should be YES. This is not bragging. For the rest of your answer:

1. Start by defining what success means to you.
2. Then choose an example of a time you were successful in some way.
3. Include others in your story to show that you see success as a team effort.
