What is the difference between IELTS, TOEFL, and TOEIC?

If you need to prove your English skills, there are several tests you can take. Each test is used for different purposes, so it's important to know which one is right for you. Here's a simple guide to understanding IELTS, TOEFL, and TOEIC.

IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

IELTS is used for studying, working, and immigrating to English-speaking countries. There are two versions: Academic (for univesity) and General Training (for work and immigration). The test includes listening, reading, writing, and speaking sections. The speaking part is a face-to-face interview.

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

TOEFL is mainly for students who want to study in the USA or Canada. It tests your listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills, all done on a computer. TOEFL is often required for university admissions.

TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication)

TOEIC is used by businesses to check the English skills of their employees or job candidates. It has two parts: Listening and Reading, and Speaking and Writing. TOEIC focuses on everyday English used in the workplace.

In Summary:

  • IELTS: For studying, working, and immigrating (two types: Academic and General Training)
  • TOEFL: For studying, especially in the USA and Canada (internet-based)
  • TOEIC: For working, used by companies (focuses on workplace English

Choose the test that fits your goals and the requirements of the places you want to apply to.
