GBC: International travel

Tell an anecdote—a story—about something that happened to you (or someone you know) while traveling abroad. Make sure you include lots of vivid detail!

Yes, I've traveled abroad a few times. I love to see new places and get to know different people. The strangest trip I ever took was through Mongolia. I went through the Gobi Desert by train, which took a long time! The desert didn't look like I thought it would. There is some sand, but it's mostly covered in grass. I've seen other deserts that are like ones in movies, with sand dunes and camels, so this was new for me. People live in big tents called yurts, which have doors and fires and kitchens inside. I saw some around the edge of cities, too, because the people have to go there to get work, but they still want to live in a yurt. I don't understand why because there's no running water or anything, and everyone sleeps in the same room! I wouldn't like that at all. But that's why I like to travel, so I can see how other people live, even if I wouldn't want to live that way myself.
