The Poligo Philosophy

The Whys　何故ポリゴなのか？

Poligo was created by both students and teachers of language for two reasons:

  1. Firstly, to help students to use English, as well as study and practice it;
  2. Secondly, to give our students high-quality English support between classes.
ポリゴは言語を勉強している人と言語を教えている人によって作られました。その理由は：
  1. 英語を勉強し、練習するだけでなく、英語を楽しんで使う機会を生徒さんに提供するため；
  2. レッスン間に、生徒さんに質の良い英語学習サポートを提供するため。

As teachers, we noticed that our students often lacked basic skills in written English and reading comprehension. Also, our students would learn well in lessons, but lose ground in the days between classes.

私たちは生徒さんの英語を書く力と読解力の不足に気づきました。また、生徒さんがレッスンで学習したことを、レッスンの間に忘れてしまうことがありました。

This lack of skill and slow progress can be largely overcome when people have the chance to expose themselves to their target language or immerse themselves in it. More importantly, when they use the language in a meaningful and personal way, English learners can enjoy English. Their motivation to learn is increased and they develop a deeper connection with English.

毎日英語を使い、英語に没頭することで能力の不足と、なかなか上達しない状況を克服できます。さらに重要なことには、個人的に興味のある事に英語を使えば、英語が楽しくなります。モチベーションが上がり、英語と深い結び付きができます。

So, learning a language becomes much easier and more interesting when it stops being a thing you study and becomes something you use. When foreign languages become a way to do the things you love — to learn about things that interest you and help you enjoy life — they are a joy and a pleasure. We thought that there was a way to increase the exposure to a second language easily and conveniently, give people the support they need to make real progress, and at the same time make English a greater part of people's lives.

そうすることで、言葉は勉強するだけでなく使う事によって、学ぶ事がより楽しく、より面白くなります。外国語を、あなたの興味深い事を深める為のツールにできれば、 大変喜ばしいです！私たちは生徒さんがより早く上達できるように、英語を使う機会とサポートを提供すると同時に、英語が生徒さんの人生の一部となる方法が絶対にあると思いました。

However, as students of languages we noticed that access to that kind of support and exposure is hard to come by. If you are lucky enough to live in a country where your target language is spoken it is easy. Unfortunately, many of us are studying a language far from the countries where it is spoken. We go to school or we struggle on by ourselves. With no-one to help us, our questions go unanswered and our mistakes become bad habits.

しかし、私たちは言葉の学習サポートと外国語を使う機会があまりない事に気づきました。当然、勉強している言葉の国に住めば簡単ですが、勉強している日本人はほとんど日本にいます。週に一、二回程度英会話学校に行く時間しかありません。独学する人に至っては質問する相手もおらず、質問は回答されずに間違いが癖になります。
