"Hope" is the feeling you get when you think things will go well, or that good things will happen. There are three main ways to use the word "hope" in English:

1. to talk about the future;
2. to talk about something happening now;
3. to talk about something that happened already.

"Wish" means "want" or "desire". In English, we use it in four main ways:

1. to say we want things to be different—for impossible dreams;
2. to express regret and annoyance;
3. to say formally what you want to do; and
4. in some greetings.
