How to write to improve your English.
The Write Way Up
Writing improves your speaking and listening. It makes you a better reader. It helps you remember and use new language. Use writing well to learn faster.
______
To learn from your writing, you need feedback and advice. You need to try new language and words. When you make mistakes in your writing, you learn new things from feedback and advice.
There are two ways to go about writing to improve all areas of your English. The first is to write slowly. The second is to write fast.
Write slowly and carefully to learn new things. Try to use new language and vocabulary as much as you can. Check your class notes, the dictionary and your textbooks. Test the limits of what you know and think carefully about each sentence. Read your writing and see if you can add more or think of a better way to say it.
Write about many different, challenging topics: a conversation with a co-worker; your opinion of the movie you watched last night; what you might do if you were ten years younger; your predictions for the future.
This way you improve structure and style. You develop a command of the language. You focus on what you learn and know and how to use it. It lets you practice the right thing to say. There are no limits.
